The March For Our Lives

Washington, DC

Francine Terry  March 29, 2018

I had the pleasure of attending the March for Our Lives Protest in Washington, DC.  Like the Women’s March of 2017, I found it empowering, uplifting and hopeful.  When a large group of people come together to promote a singular cause the air becomes electric.  The camaraderie started while I was on the MARC train in route to the March.  I was with two friends, when we met a woman who’d flown in from California to participate in the March.  I was puzzled, so I asked her why she would travel such a distance when she could participate in one of the many California marches.  She simply responded that DC was where the action was, and she wanted to be a part of the action.  I smiled thinking, I guess that about sums it up.

These events make you believe that anything is possible.  They renew your belief in the resilience of the human spirit.  When I arrived at the March, I was amazed by the sheer number of people.  I took a deep breath and joined the hoards, waving their signs and chanting their mantras.  However, bearing witness to the leaders of tomorrow brought tears to my eyes.  Their determination to change the hearts and minds of the politicians made my heart sing.  This is truly what democracy looks like.
